- “And Yiftach Hgiladi was a mighty
worrier, he was the son of a zonah and Gilad gave birth to Yiftach”
(shoftim 11/1).
- Yiftach was one of the judges of Yisroel. Although he was one of the
lower judges, it is still difficult that he was able to come from a union
with a zonah(prostitute).
- If a man has no male sons he is inherited by his daughters. However
if his daughters would then marry outside their tribe they would be inherited
by their husband, removing land from one tribe and passing it to another
tribe.
- This was the problems by the daughters of Tzlofchad and Moshe declared
that they must marry amongst their own tribe.
- A women in this situation who married out side her tribe, still has
a valid marriage but she is nicknamed a “Zonah”.
- this was the case with Yiftachs mother, heaven forbid that she was a
real Zonah.
