-There are many stories about holy men
who were able to push off their death by studying Torah. When they knew
it was time for them to die, they would fully absorb themselves in Torah,
the Angel of Death, would then have no control over them. (Dovid was an
example)
- The fact that many people died while being involved in the study of
Torah, is not a problem since there are many lower levels of studying
Torah.
- When most people study Torah, they are lucky if they occupy one of the
seven slots of their conscious mind with Torah. Many foreign thoughts
flow through their mind as they study.
- Even if one is able to fully concentrate, he is very unlikely to have
all his attributes attached to the Torah.
- The reason Torah stops the Angel of Death from doing his job is because
he has no opening. However, by a regular person there are many openings
since he can not fully meditate on the Torah.
- Every drop of Torah guards and protects a person but in some cases the
quality of the Torah he is learning is not enough to push off the reason
death was decreed upon him.
- Meaning, the sages were able to achieve states of full concentration
which would prevent death. A person who can’t do this is sometimes
protected by his level of Torah but sometimes not, depending on the circumstances.
